Tools We Use

At GearGuide we employ a range online publishing tools in developing outdoor gear reviews. Below is a snapshot:

WordPress

Simply the best blogging and content management tool around for small to medium sized pubishers. I am totally impressed at the support from the community of theme builders, plugin developers and others that provide insight and advice. It’s free and it’s amazing.

Woo Themes

GearGuide is built on top of the Fresh News theme from Woo Themes. I looked at a range of options before making my decision on the theme and company with which to do business. One of the things that convinced me was their hands-on Woo Themes Playground that allowed me to really get the experience of working with all their products before making my final selection. The documentation is a little disappointing (it’s pretty generic to all themes) but the support forums are quite good. For more on WooThemes, click here.

BlueHost

Simple setup and good technical support mark a good web host. BlueHost has both of those. Setting up WordPress is just a few simple clicks. They provide unlimited storage, nearly unlimited mail accounts and a whole range of other options. The company is based in Utah and has a solid A- rating from the Better Business Bureau. Response on tech support inquires is rapid via chat, phone, etc. Video tutorials are great too. Visit bluehost.com for more information and to signup.
