You’ll be surprised by this great location. There are 12 camping sites nestled in a small valley surrounded by granite peaks and forest. The campground snugs up against the North Fork of the Consumnes River and provides a great location for small groups.

The Jake Schneider Meadow is a wonderfully beautiful high country spot that’s easily accessible from the Silver Fork camp ground. The trail head sits about half a mile from the campground and parallels the Silver Fork of the American River.

Another right-in-our-backyard hike for kids, the Sibley Volcanic Regional Preserve is in the Oakland Hills just off Highway 24. The scenery is a combination of coastal mountain with dense Eucalyptus forest and open, sundrenched East Bay Hills.

The Sunol Wilderness is right in our own backyard. Situated between San Jose and Pleasanton, California, it can be reached right off Highway 680 at the base of the Sunol Grade.

Crystal Basin is located in the Eldorado National Forest, roughly 20 miles outside of Placerville on US Highway 50. There are numerous small streams with great fishing and camping in the area. One of my latest discoveries is Silver Creek.
