Mountain Hardwear Dragons Claw Glove

First Impressions

Aggressive, pre-curved fingers – so what else would you expect from a product dubbed the Dragons Claw Glove? Well, when they are from Mountain Hardwear you also get rugged design and good looks with a black, gray and yellow color scheme. You also get extremely solid construction that should keep the Dragons Claw on the slopes for multiple seasons.

Features

In addition to its rugged good looks, one of the standout features of the Dragons Claw is its use of OutDry technology. Mountain Hardwear laminates the membrane to the external shell of the glove keeping water completely at bay. We submerged the Dragons Claw for more than an hour. The product appeared to absorb not a single drop of water and the interior of the glove remained completely dry. Outstanding performance in my book. I’m tired of my gloves getting soaked in Sierra storms.

In addition to the use of OutDry, Mountain Hardwear employed some great construction techniques and materials in the Dragons Claw. The palm and fingers are goatskin leather. High wear areas are double stitched with Kevlar. The knuckles use a unique accordion ribbing to improve flexibility. There’s soft fabric on the back of the thumb for wiping your face. And the thin Thermic Micro insulation keeps bulk down.

Fit

The Dragons Claw fits as expected. No need to size up or down. The interior is lined with a shearing-like wool/nylon fleece. Very comfortable.

The Dragon’s Claw’s cuff closes with hook and loop and according to Mountain Hardwear should be worn under the cuff of your jacket, similar to the Columbia Gathering Storm. This is easier said then done, however, because of the bulkiness of the cuff. On some jackets, it was impossible to slide the Dragon Claw under the jacket sleeve. In those cases, it can be worn over the jacket like a gauntlet-style glove but be aware the inner cuff is not nearly as waterproof as the rest of the glove.

Final Verdict

Rugged good looks. Best waterproof performance of the three gloves we tested. If you’re looking for a great undercuff glove, this is a fantastic choice. Recommended.
