Quick Take Review

Getting outdoors with a bulky DSLR has never been easy. A camera body, multiple lenses, flash, tripod and other gear add up to some serious weight. And carrying them in a regular daypack is nearly impossible. Several manufacturers recently introduced new products specifically for the outdoor photographer, and LowePro’s Photo Sport 200 AW is among the best.

Out of the box, the LowePro Photo Sport 200 AW simply bristles with pockets, lash points and carrying adjustments. Chief among these is what the company calls the Ultra-Cinch Camera Chamber. It’s located at the bottom left side of the pack and can hold a camera body and several lenses in a tight, padded and very protective cocoon. A built-in elastic strap and inner flap keeps everything from jostling around while on the move. Very nicely done.

In addition to the camera chamber, the Photo Sport has four more storage compartments. Above the camera chamber, there’s a 850 cu. in. main compartment for more photo gear, clothing, food or whatever. It’s not huge but should get the job done on most day trips. The compartment closes with a draw string and is covered with a lid to keep the weather out. There’s a small zippered pocket under the lid, an open exterior shove pocket, an elastic pocket on the right side and two hip belt pockets. Lash points line both sides of the Photo Sport and the pack’s bottom for hiking poles, tripods/monopods or even a fly rod or two.

Weight: 2.9 lbs
Material: Ripstop nylon
Capacity: 850 cu in + camera chamber

Rounding out the Photo Sport is a zippered pouch for a hydration bladder, channeled back panel for ventilation and tons of adjustments on the shoulder straps including load lifters, sliding chest strap (with whistle for emergencies), and carrying handle.

Everything about the Photo Sport is professionally done and clearly demonstrates that the company understands the demands of outdoor photography. Even the zipper pulls are specially constructed to make them easy to open and close with one finger. Definitely check this out if you’re in the market. The LowePro Photo Sport 200 AW is one of the best out there.
